Second Chance Humane Society Pet Column
One of the goals of Second Chance Humane Society that constitute the overall vision of loving homes for all pets involves an emphasis upon decreasing pet overpopulation through the promotion and education of responsible and humane pet ownership and the human-animal connection (see full goal statement on homepage).Second Chance feels that eventually through this preventative approach we will accomplish far more than simple intervention alone can do. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of intervention and we hope to eventually have less pets in need as a result of practicing this philosophy. In other words, to shamelessly alter an old Indian proverb, if we go upstream to help animals from falling in the river there will be less animals to pull out of the river downstream. Thus the birth of the SCHS Pet Column, featured weekly in the Telluride Daily Planet and the Ridgway Sun or Ouray Plaindealer. The column presents and explores different humane education topics each week while promoting a pet of the week for adoption. The various columns are listed below and are available to all visitors of our website.
New columns are added weekly so keep checking in regularly for more expert advice, as offered by our various shelter animals.
Second Chance Community Education Programming is sponsored by the Anschutz Foundation, Telluride Foundation, and the Town of Telluride Commission for Community Assistance, Arts And Special Events.
